Most of the advice here is solid: pay down your debts, save for the future, don’t fall for scams, live within your means, etc。 The downside is that the parables used to teach these lessons are boring, sometimes patronizing, and often embrace a strong patriarchal and colonist mindset。 If you’re interested in getting past the “take care of your wife” and “make money your slave” stuff (not to mention the ample references to real slavery, this is set in ancient Babylon after all), you still have to Most of the advice here is solid: pay down your debts, save for the future, don’t fall for scams, live within your means, etc。 The downside is that the parables used to teach these lessons are boring, sometimes patronizing, and often embrace a strong patriarchal and colonist mindset。 If you’re interested in getting past the “take care of your wife” and “make money your slave” stuff (not to mention the ample references to real slavery, this is set in ancient Babylon after all), you still have to get past the fact that this book is written in antiquated English for no good reason at all。 If they’re going to be speaking English in this version of old Babylon, does it need to be the English with odd phrasing and loaded with doths and thous and werts。 I imagine this is what Dave Ramsey would have written if he was big into historical re-enactments。 。。。more

I can understand why so many people have such high regard for this book。 It is motivational, practical, and very straightforward that everyone can understand。 The book successfully presents some of the fundamental financial principles about productivity, incomes, savings, and investments, etc, through the real-life stories of the "businessmen" in Babylon。 This way of presenting the lessons makes the book fairly interesting and unique compared to other business books。However, for an economics maj I can understand why so many people have such high regard for this book。 It is motivational, practical, and very straightforward that everyone can understand。 The book successfully presents some of the fundamental financial principles about productivity, incomes, savings, and investments, etc, through the real-life stories of the "businessmen" in Babylon。 This way of presenting the lessons makes the book fairly interesting and unique compared to other business books。However, for an economics major like me, the ideas are somewhat naive and oversimplified。 They are common knowledge and even repeated for several chapters。 Since this is a classic one, both the writing style and content are quite old that do not address many of the financial issues that people face in our current age (an example of this is rampant consumerism and excessive use of interest-based finance)。This book might be a good start for someone who does not have any background in personal finance and wants to grasp the basic concepts in a relaxing way without giving too much effort。 There would be some valuable lessons to learn so give it a try。 。。。more

As English my second language, archaic English used here was a little difficult to understand。 But I must say the content is great to be consumed in the book and one can achieve financial freedom if follow it's rules with persistence。 As English my second language, archaic English used here was a little difficult to understand。 But I must say the content is great to be consumed in the book and one can achieve financial freedom if follow it's rules with persistence。 。。。more

I dig old self help books。 This book doles out some sound financial basics, and uses parabolic narrative to drive it home。 It's The Alchemist without Soul。 This opened me up though。 It was an uncomfortable book that's had me tossing and turning emotionally since I picked it up。 Maybe that's a good thing。 The Walls of Babylon are hard to scale。 Get to it。 I dig old self help books。 This book doles out some sound financial basics, and uses parabolic narrative to drive it home。 It's The Alchemist without Soul。 This opened me up though。 It was an uncomfortable book that's had me tossing and turning emotionally since I picked it up。 Maybe that's a good thing。 The Walls of Babylon are hard to scale。 Get to it。 。。。more

Wow, I just loved this book。 I couldn't close it and enjoyed every word of it。The whole economic and finance course, summarized in a little book of less than 200 pages。 Still relevant, still key to gaining and managing your wealth。 I will definitely follow its instruction and will read it again and again。Highly Recommended Wow, I just loved this book。 I couldn't close it and enjoyed every word of it。The whole economic and finance course, summarized in a little book of less than 200 pages。 Still relevant, still key to gaining and managing your wealth。 I will definitely follow its instruction and will read it again and again。Highly Recommended 。。。more

I probably would have appreciated this book more if I read it before Rich Dad, Poor dad because now I feel like I already learned those couple of useful tips from Kiyosaki。 Also, the over reliance on usury and the disregard for ethics were disturbing!

It's not 100% about money getting, but also about your behavior。 It emphasizes how a man should behave towards it's borrowers and family。 It's not 100% about money getting, but also about your behavior。 It emphasizes how a man should behave towards it's borrowers and family。 。。。more

As a beginner's book into finances, I think this did an excellent job。 I found lessons such as saving 10% of what you earn for yourself to be practical, whilst others such as being careful who you take advice from and developing your craft, not strictly financial but life advice in general。 I would give it a read if you are starting to learn about finances。 Overall, I enjoyed it, but if you are looking for a book with a more practical 'do this, invest here, look at these kinds of stocks' then th As a beginner's book into finances, I think this did an excellent job。 I found lessons such as saving 10% of what you earn for yourself to be practical, whilst others such as being careful who you take advice from and developing your craft, not strictly financial but life advice in general。 I would give it a read if you are starting to learn about finances。 Overall, I enjoyed it, but if you are looking for a book with a more practical 'do this, invest here, look at these kinds of stocks' then this isn't that book。 It is more general, getting started but still valuable advice。 I would recommend it! 。。。more

Nothing mind-blowing but a relatable and needed story for those whom have never reflected on financial planning。Beside the seven lesson the book also takes up behaviours that should be changed for a better chance at increasing ones wealth and quality of life like for example pProcrastination and lack of action or lingering in bad investments。

This book should be made as text book for the mid level school

The idea of financial advice that is told through a parable was interesting。The advice was sound。Found all the conversations being in old English with 'thee' , ' thy' , 'clingeth' etc very funny。 A short book。Basic ideas:1。 Save a 10th of your salary。 Pay yourself first by investing or saving this money and only spend the rest。2。 Let the money, it's interest and its interest earn for you3。 Some advice on using ur money- don't invest in things u don't know, don't lend money if it's unlikely to be The idea of financial advice that is told through a parable was interesting。The advice was sound。Found all the conversations being in old English with 'thee' , ' thy' , 'clingeth' etc very funny。 A short book。Basic ideas:1。 Save a 10th of your salary。 Pay yourself first by investing or saving this money and only spend the rest。2。 Let the money, it's interest and its interest earn for you3。 Some advice on using ur money- don't invest in things u don't know, don't lend money if it's unlikely to be returned。4。 Work hard5。 Luck favors hard workers 。。。more

In this book, the language is a bit uncomfortable。 But the principles of money are of high worth。 While reading the book, I thought of selling my one car out of two。It is a powerful book that influences and drives you on earnings, savings, and living honestly。 Initially, I read while listening to Audible。 Later, I threw audible aside and read loudly。

Cami

This could have been a very short pamphlet with some helpful information。 The Babylon context was gimmicky and anachronistic。

Interesting rules to get rich。 Before reading the book also, I was saving more than the prescribed %。 Need to relook into the suggestion of where to invest。
